FAQ

1. What is APM Power Module in Quadcopters/Drones?

The APM 3 power module is a battery eliminator circuit, a type of voltage regulator. Used to prevent high voltage to the ESC and pass the required voltage. Modern RC airplanes use high voltage batteries so you can power the receiver, servos and other accessories from the main he battery without having to use a separate low voltage battery. The APM 3 Power Module is an easy way to not only power the APM 3 from a LiPo battery, but also provide power consumption and battery voltage measurements, all over a 6-position cable.

2. How do you connect AMP power module to Pixhawk?

Pixhawk is as easy as connecting a 6-pin DF13 cable from one of the supported power modules to the Pixhawk's "power" connector, as shown below. This module supplies the Pixhawk with a constant ~5V, allowing the Pixhawk to measure the current and/or voltage of the main battery.

3. Can this power module be used to power servos?

No, this power module is not designed to power servos. It is intended to power APM/Arduflyer/Fixhawk/Pixhawk flight controllers, RC receivers, and accessories like GPS and radio telemetry.

4. How does this power module connect to the flight controller?

The power module connects to the flight controller via a 6-pos DF13 cable that plugs directly into the APM 2.5’s ‘PM’ connector.

5. What are the dimensions and weight of this power module?

The dimensions of the power module are 25mm x 21mm x 9mm, and it weighs 17 grams including all wires.

The APM 2.5/6 Pixhawk Power Module is a convenient solution for supplying clean and stable power to your flight controller directly from a LiPo battery. It also enables real-time monitoring of battery voltage and current consumption through a 6-pin cable. The module features an onboard switching regulator that delivers a steady 5.3V output with a maximum current of up to 2.25A. It comes fully assembled with XT60 connectors and is protected with heat-shrink tubing for added durability.

This power module measures both battery voltage and current, sending these signals to the flight controller. The controller then calculates the remaining battery capacity and estimates the available flight time. Additionally, the module includes a built-in BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit), capable of providing a regulated 5.3V output with up to 3A continuous current, ensuring a stable power supply for the flight system.

Note: This module is intended to power the APM, RC receiver, and related accessories such as GPS and telemetry radios. It is not suitable for powering servos.

You may also consider using an XT60 connector pair for reliable connectivity. These connectors feature 3.5mm gold-plated bullet contacts for efficient and secure power transmission.
