A cermet preset is a small, PCB-mountable variable resistor with three terminals. As the adjustment screw is turned, the voltage across its terminals changes accordingly.
Variable resistors are used to regulate voltage levels in a circuit based on requirements. Typically, the two outer terminals are connected to Vcc and ground (0V), while the middle terminal provides a variable output voltage ranging from 0V to Vcc as the cermet preset is adjusted.
