FAQ

1. What is servo shield?

This servo shield connects 20 servos to SPDuino and other Arduino-compatible boards. The servos' selectable power supply allows you to choose between the onboard regulator and other suitable power sources via separate servo power terminals.

2. What are the applications of the 16-channel PWM Servo Motor Shield?

The 16-channel PWM Servo Motor Shield is used in applications like RGB or RGBA LED drivers, LED status information, LED displays, LCD backlights, and Keypad backlights for cellular phones or handheld devices. This shield is perfect if you want to build a robot, perhaps a hexapod, or a project that requires several components that require movement.

3. Does Arduino need Motor Shield?

Using an Arduino and the Arduino Motor Shield, you can easily control motor direction and speed. It makes incorporating a motor into your project very simple by allowing you to simply address Arduino pins. It also enables you to power a motor with a separate power supply of up to 12 volts.

4. Which Arduino boards is it compatible with?

It works with most I2C-supported Arduino boards such as:

Arduino UNO
Arduino Mega
Arduino Nano
Arduino Leonardo

5. How does the shield communicate with Arduino?

It uses the I2C communication protocol, which requires only two pins:
  SDA (Data)
  SCL (Clock)

The 16-Channel 12-bit PWM/Servo Driver Shield is specially designed for Arduino-compatible development boards and allows you to control up to 16 servo motors using just two I2C pins. Connections can be easily made using jumper wires.

It features an onboard PWM controller that independently manages all 16 channels simultaneously without adding extra processing load to the Arduino. Additionally, you can stack up to 62 shields together, enabling control of a large number of servos — all through the same two I2C lines.

This shield is an excellent choice for robotics projects such as hexapods or any application requiring multiple moving components. It is also ideal for driving multiple LEDs with accurate PWM control, especially when the microcontroller has limited PWM output pins. With this shield, 16 PWM outputs can be efficiently controlled using only a 2-pin I2C interface.

Applications:

  • RGB or RGBA LED control
  • LED status indicators
  • LED display systems
  • LCD backlight control
  • Keypad backlighting for mobile or handheld devices
