
The AS608 Optical Fingerprint Sensor Module is a compact biometric identification module designed for fingerprint enrollment, recognition, verification, and user authentication applications. The module combines an optical fingerprint sensor, image-processing circuitry, fingerprint feature extraction, template storage, and matching functions in a single integrated unit.
The sensor captures a fingerprint image through its optical sensing window and processes the image internally to extract unique fingerprint characteristics. These features are converted into digital fingerprint templates that can be stored directly in the module's internal memory. During verification, a newly scanned fingerprint can be compared with a specific stored template or searched against the complete fingerprint database.
The AS608 communicates with a host controller through a TTL UART serial interface, allowing commands for fingerprint enrollment, deletion, searching, matching, and database management. Common documentation specifies a configurable baud rate from 9600 to 57600 bps, with 57600 bps commonly used as the default.
The module provides fast fingerprint imaging and matching, with commonly documented versions supporting up to 162 fingerprint templates, a 500 DPI optical resolution, and fingerprint imaging in less than one second. Since image processing and template matching are handled inside the module, the connected microcontroller does not need to perform complex biometric image processing.
The AS608 is suitable for electronic door locks, attendance systems, security devices, smart cabinets, access-control systems, biometric safes, and microcontroller-based authentication projects.
