
The Digital Distance Measuring Sensor – GP2Y0A02 F 23 is a compact infrared distance sensing device designed for non-contact object detection and distance measurement. This sensor belongs to the GP2Y0A02 family of long-range optical distance sensors and combines an infrared emitting diode (IRED), Position Sensitive Detector (PSD), and integrated signal-processing circuitry in a single housing.
The sensor works using the optical triangulation method. An infrared beam is emitted toward the target object, and the reflected light is detected by the internal PSD. The integrated processing circuit determines the target distance and provides an analog voltage output that varies according to the measured distance. The GP2Y0A02YK0F reference specification covers a measurement range of approximately 20cm to 150cm.
Compared with simple reflective IR obstacle sensors, the triangulation measurement method reduces the influence of object color and surface reflectivity, although target shape, angle, and optical conditions can still affect measurement performance. The sensor provides an analog output that can be connected to an ADC input for distance estimation.
With its long sensing range, compact enclosed construction, and simple 3-wire interface, the sensor is suitable for robotics, obstacle detection, automatic equipment, human-presence detection, smart appliances, and microcontroller-based distance measurement projects.
