The Original DS18B20 Temperature Sensor is a high-precision digital temperature sensor that communicates using the 1-Wire® communication protocol, allowing multiple sensors to share a single microcontroller data pin. Manufactured by Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated), the DS18B20 provides factory-calibrated digital temperature measurements with programmable 9-bit to 12-bit resolution, eliminating the need for external analog-to-digital conversion.

Operating from 3.0V to 5.5V, the DS18B20 measures temperatures from -55°C to +125°C with a typical accuracy of ±0.5°C over the range of -10°C to +85°C. Each sensor contains a unique 64-bit serial number, enabling multiple DS18B20 sensors to operate on the same 1-Wire bus. The sensor also supports parasite power mode, allowing it to operate using only the data line and ground without a dedicated power supply. Its accuracy, reliability, and ease of interfacing make it ideal for Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, industrial automation, HVAC systems, weather stations, aquariums, greenhouses, and IoT applications.

FAQ

1. What is the DS18B20 Temperature Sensor used for?

The DS18B20 is used for accurate digital temperature measurement in applications such as weather stations, HVAC systems, industrial automation, aquariums, greenhouses, IoT devices, and embedded electronics projects.

2. Can multiple DS18B20 sensors be connected to one microcontroller pin?

Yes. Each DS18B20 has a unique 64-bit serial number, allowing multiple sensors to share a single 1-Wire data line, making it ideal for distributed temperature monitoring systems.

3. Is the DS18B20 compatible with Arduino and ESP32?

Yes. The DS18B20 is fully compatible with Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, PIC, AVR, and other microcontrollers that support or can implement the 1-Wire communication protocol.

4. What is the accuracy of the DS18B20 sensor?

The DS18B20 provides a typical accuracy of ±0.5°C over the temperature range of -10°C to +85°C, with a full measurement range of -55°C to +125°C.

5. What is parasite power mode in the DS18B20?

Parasite power mode allows the DS18B20 to operate using only the data (DQ) and ground (GND) connections, eliminating the need for a separate power supply pin. The sensor derives its operating power directly from the 1-Wire data line during communication.
