The Real Time Clock Module - DS1307 is a low-power real-time clock module designed to accurately maintain time and calendar information even when the main power supply is turned off. Built around the popular DS1307 RTC IC, the module keeps track of seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year, including automatic leap-year compensation. It is widely used in Arduino projects, Raspberry Pi applications, ESP32 development, data logging systems, clocks, timers, home automation, IoT devices, and embedded systems where accurate timekeeping is required.
The module communicates with microcontrollers through the industry-standard I²C (Two-Wire) interface, requiring only two communication pins for operation. It includes a backup battery holder for a CR2032 coin cell, allowing the RTC to continue keeping accurate time even during power interruptions. The module also features an onboard 32.768kHz crystal oscillator that provides stable clock generation for reliable long-term operation.
In addition to real-time clock functionality, many DS1307 modules include a 24C32 I²C EEPROM that provides 32Kb (4KB) of non-volatile memory for storing configuration settings, calibration data, user parameters, or small amounts of application data. The module is fully compatible with popular development platforms including Arduino UNO, Nano, Mega, ESP32, ESP8266, STM32, Raspberry Pi, PIC, AVR, and other I²C-enabled microcontrollers.
Designed for ease of integration, the DS1307 RTC Module operates from a 5V supply and provides a simple interface for adding accurate timekeeping capabilities to electronic projects. Its compact size, low power consumption, backup battery support, and wide software compatibility make it an ideal solution for students, hobbyists, engineers, educators, and embedded system developers.
