The RFID Tag – EM4100 125kHz RFID Key Fob is a compact, passive, low-frequency RFID identification tag designed for contactless identification, access control, attendance systems, security systems, and asset identification applications. The key fob uses the EM4100 protocol or a compatible chip implementation and operates at a frequency of 125kHz. EM4100-family transponders are read-only devices that transmit a factory-programmed identification code when energized by a compatible RFID reader.

The RFID key fob contains an internal RFID chip and antenna coil enclosed inside a durable plastic housing. It does not require a battery or external power supply. When the key fob is brought near a compatible 125kHz RFID reader, it receives energy from the reader's electromagnetic field and transmits its stored identification data back to the reader.

Its compact keychain-style design makes it convenient to carry and suitable for everyday identification applications. The tag is commonly used with compatible 125kHz RFID readers such as RDM6300-type reader modules and other access-control readers that support the EM4100/EM4102 protocol family.

FAQ

1. What is the EM4100 125kHz RFID Key Fob used for?

The RFID key fob is used for contactless identification in applications such as door access control, attendance systems, electronic locks, membership systems, parking access, and RFID-based security projects.

2. Does the EM4100 RFID Key Fob require a battery?

No. The key fob is a passive RFID tag. It receives the energy required for operation from the electromagnetic field generated by a compatible 125kHz RFID reader.

3. Can the EM4100 RFID Key Fob be rewritten or reprogrammed?

No. Standard EM4100 RFID tags are read-only devices with a factory-programmed identification code. The stored identification data cannot normally be changed or rewritten.

4. Is the EM4100 RFID Key Fob compatible with the RC522 RFID reader?

No. The EM4100 key fob operates at 125kHz, while the RC522 reader operates at 13.56MHz. The two systems use different frequencies and communication technologies and are not compatible.

5. What is the typical reading distance of an EM4100 RFID Key Fob?

The reading distance is typically a few centimetres, but the actual range depends on the reader antenna, reader power, tag orientation, antenna coupling, and surrounding environmental conditions.
