The TP4056 Battery Charging/Protection Module (Micro USB) is a compact charging solution designed for single-cell 3.7V Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) and Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) batteries. Built around the TP4056 linear charging IC, along with the DW01A battery protection IC and FS8205A dual MOSFET, the module provides intelligent battery charging while protecting the battery against overcharging, over-discharging, overcurrent, and short circuits.

The module accepts a 5V input through a Micro USB connector or dedicated input pads and charges the battery using the Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) charging algorithm. The default charging current is 1A, which can be adjusted by replacing the onboard programming resistor. Two onboard LEDs indicate the charging status, making it easy to monitor battery charging progress. Compatible with 18650 cells and other single-cell Li-ion/Li-Po batteries, the TP4056 module is widely used in portable electronics, IoT devices, DIY power banks, robotics, and battery-powered embedded systems.

FAQ

1. What batteries can the TP4056 module charge?

The TP4056 module is designed to charge single-cell 3.7V Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) and Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) rechargeable batteries with a full-charge voltage of 4.2V. It is not suitable for charging multiple cells connected in series.

2. Does the TP4056 module include battery protection?

Yes. This version includes a DW01A protection IC and FS8205A dual MOSFET, providing protection against overcharging, over-discharging, overcurrent, and short circuits.

3. Can the charging current be adjusted?

Yes. The default charging current is 1A, but it can be adjusted from approximately 100mA to 1A by changing the onboard programming resistor connected to the TP4056 IC.

4. What do the LEDs on the TP4056 module indicate?

The module includes two status LEDs. The red LED indicates that the battery is charging, while the blue or green LED indicates that charging is complete (LED color may vary depending on the manufacturer).

5. Can the TP4056 module power a project while charging the battery?

Many TP4056 protection modules expose OUT+ and OUT− terminals that allow powering a load while charging. However, for applications where the device must operate continuously during charging, a dedicated power-path/load-sharing circuit is recommended to ensure proper battery charging and reliable operation.
