The Weight Sensor – 5KG Load Cell is a strain-gauge-based force and weight measurement sensor designed to measure loads up to 5 kilograms. It converts mechanical deformation caused by an applied weight or force into a small differential electrical signal that can be amplified and processed by a microcontroller or digital weighing system.

The sensor contains precision strain gauges arranged as a Wheatstone bridge and bonded to an aluminium alloy structure. When a load is applied in the correct direction, the metal body deforms slightly, causing a change in the resistance of the strain gauges. This produces a small differential output voltage proportional to the applied load. Typical 5 kg bar-type load cells have rated outputs around 1.0 to 1.2 mV/V, though exact specifications vary by model.

Because the raw output signal is only a few millivolts at full load, the load cell is commonly used with an HX711 24-bit ADC and load cell amplifier module. This combination allows easy interfacing with Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, RP2040, and other development platforms for digital weighing scales, kitchen scales, force measurement systems, inventory monitoring, and IoT-based weight monitoring projects.

FAQ

1. What is the 5KG Load Cell Weight Sensor used for?

The sensor is used to measure weight or applied force up to 5kg. It is commonly used in digital weighing scales, kitchen scales, small platform scales, robotics, automatic filling systems, and IoT weight-monitoring projects.

2. Can the 5KG Load Cell be connected directly to an Arduino?

The load cell produces a very small differential analog signal, so it is normally connected to an HX711 load cell amplifier and ADC module before interfacing with an Arduino or other microcontroller.

3. How does a 5KG Load Cell measure weight?

The load cell contains strain gauges attached to its metal body. When weight is applied, the body deforms slightly, changing the resistance of the strain gauges and producing an electrical signal proportional to the applied load.

4. Is the 5KG Load Cell compatible with ESP32 and STM32?

Yes. When used with a suitable amplifier and ADC module such as the HX711, the sensor can be interfaced with ESP32, STM32, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, RP2040, PIC, AVR, and many other controllers.

5. Does the 5KG Load Cell require calibration?

Yes. Calibration is required to convert the raw sensor readings into accurate weight values. A known reference weight is typically placed on the weighing platform and used to calculate the calibration factor.
